An access log is a comprehensive list of all the files that were accessed by the visitors of a certain site. Each and every file that was requested for whatever reason will be listed, so if you have only one page with 3 embedded graphics, one video and one embedded text file, as an illustration, the access log shall contain a total of 6 entries - one for every of the six files that were accessed when the site visitor opened the webpage. A log usually shows the file name and path, the date, plus the visitor’s OS, web browser and IP address. In some cases you could also find the referrer websites that sent the visitors to your site. The information which an access log file contains is in human-readable plain text format. It can also be processed by special software on a desktop machine and used to write reports on the functionality of an Internet site, independent of the web statistics that your web hosting server may have generated.
Access Log Manager in Web Hosting
Our custom Hepsia Control Panel includes a section focused on various logs and the access logs are one of them. As you sign in to your web hosting account and take a look at this section, you shall find a list of all the domain names and subdomains you have. All it takes to enable the generation of access logs is to press a button that will be available next to every domain/subdomain. In case the option is enabled, you'll see a download link together with the file size so far, so you will be able to save the file to your computer and examine it or process it with some program. Enabling or disabling the logs becomes effective right away, so if you no longer need one, you may stop it with only a mouse click from the exact same section of the Control Panel. You shall still be able to access the already created content by simply clicking on the Download link.
Access Log Manager in Semi-dedicated Servers
If you have a semi-dedicated server account with our company, it will not take more than several clicks to permit the generation of access logs by our system if you need them. The function could be enabled from the Hepsia website hosting Control Panel and this could be done separately for every single domain name or subdomain you have in your account. After you log in and look at the Access/Error Logs section of the CP, you will find a list of all the hostnames with an On/Off button next to all of them. A single click will activate the log generation and another one will disable it, so you can control this function with great ease. A Download link within the same section will enable you to save the compiled content as a text file, that you can then use on your laptop or computer. Even if the logs are disabled, you'll still be able to download the data that has been previously generated.
